Full-time second-cycle (M.A. level) programme takes 2 years (4 semesters) to complete. The total number of hours amounts to 875, with the total number of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) set at 122.

 

GRADUATE’S PROFILE

The professional title of magister ( equivalent of M.A.) in the field of Philology is awarded upon completion of all courses prescribed in the study plan, and after a candidate has submitted their M.A. thesis and successfully passed their final (degree) examination. Holders of M.A. degree in English Philology  have gained extensive knowledge pertaining to the selected major: linguistics, literary and cultural studies, or applied linguistics. The graduates are characterized by high level of linguistic competence in one foreign language (the C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). They can integrate different streams of knowledge (especially the humanities) and employ them in typical professional situations. The holders of Master’s degree in English Philology can solve professional problems on their own and express relevant opinions (within the scope of their competence)  based on incomplete or limited data, while observing the principles of ethics, law and economics. In professional contexts, they can communicate freely with both experts and non-experts; they can also organize and manage teamwork.  The graduates exhibit an open-minded attitude towards other languages and cultures. Depending on the selected major, the graduates are well-prepared to work in the institutions of culture, state administration, education, as well as in publishing houses, editorial boards, mass media, in research centres or in service sector -  that is, they are fit for the positions that require excellent  knowledge of foreign languages and cultures. The holders of M.A. in English Philology  are ready  to accept academic  challenges and pursue doctoral degree.

The total number of credits that must by earned during the programme is 120.

Documents

  • a personal questionnaire (downloaded from the IRK),
  • an application form for a student ID (downloaded from the IRK),
  • a secondary school graduation certificate or a higher education diploma (together with apostille/legalised and their translation),
  • an ID (e.g. passport or residence permit) – to present during an inspection,
  • document confirming the knowledge of a English language at least at B1 level confirmed by a certificate, a diploma of graduation or a confirmation from the university obtained during the recruitment process that the candidate's knowledge of a foreign language is sufficient for them to study in that language;
    • Candidates are exempted from having to produce the document when:
    1. the foreign language was the language of instruction at the secondary school or completed university programme,
    2. the foreign language is their mother tongue,
    3. the candidate passed the maturity exam in a foreign language at extended level with a minimum of 80% score,
    4. the candidate passed a foreign language examination at B1 level during their studies and this is shown in the diploma supplement,
  • a medical certificate stating that there are no contraindications to study in fields where students are exposed to harmful, strenuous or hazardous factors to health,
  • evidence of possession:
    1. a health insurance policy for a given academic year of education in Poland, or
    2. The European Health Insurance Card, or
    3. public health insurance, or
    4. confirmation of the insurer's coverage of the costs of treatment on the territory of the Republic of Poland for a minimum amount of €30,000,

and in the absence of the documents referred to in points 1-4, he/she will declare that a copy will be provided before the first class begins,

  • consent of parents or legal guardians to take up studies in the case of minors.

 

If the candidate's documents are submitted by a third party, he/she should present a power of attorney to submit the documents and his/her own identity document and a copy of the candidate's identity card for inspection.

Admission rules

The following will be taken into account in the admission procedure:

  • a diploma of completion of a first-cycle, second-cycle or long-cycle master's degree (or equivalent) in a subject belonging to the humanities,
  • a certificate in English of at least B2+ level.

 

If the candidate does not have a B2+ level English certificate, the candidate will take a B2+ level English oral exam.
